La Trobairitz is in Languedoc-Roussillon region, known for its charm, warm sunny climate and good wine. The area is also steeped in history, natural beauty and culture.

Sanilhac, a quiet village which dates from 1132 AD, is a gateway to the Gorges of the Gardon River. A short hike to the Gorges, starting at the Boulangerie, takes one to historic La Baume, and a large network of hiking trails. The Gard is a true hiker's paradise, with many trails.

Markets are held weekly in many villages, offering a variety of produce, meat, gifts and clothing. Fêtes Votives are held in most villages during the summer months. Many feature the 'running of the bulls' and fireworks, as well as parades, carnival rides, food and dancing. Concerts and theatrical shows are frequent in the cities of Avignon and Nîmes, as well as in Uzès and smaller villages such as Sanilhac.

The villages of the Gard are nestled between vineyards, ruins, hiking trails and rock formations too numerous to mention. Less crowded with tourists than neighboring Provence, it is easy to get a taste of French life here. Take a walk or a short drive and you are sure to find something new to explore.

Nearby:

The Pont du Gard is 15 minutes from the village. Besides the Roman aquaduct itself, there are other exhibits and gift shops on the site.

Uzès, just 10 minutes from Sanilhac, is the first Duchy in France. The chateau, which is still occupied as a private residence, contains one of several museums in the village. Uzès has a wide selection of restaurants and shops, and an extensive market in the square twice weekly.

Collias, 5 km from Sanilhac, is known for river activities such as swimming and kayaking. Golf courses are found in the area, also.

St. Quentin-la-Poterie is home to the ancient tradition of pottery and ceramics.

Nîmes has many notable shops, museums and galleries, as well as Roman structures such as the Amphitheater and the Maison Carrée.

Avignon, within its ancient ramparts, is home to the Palais des Papes, Le Pont St Bénezet and, in July, one of the oldest and greatest arts festivals.
